Merchants assume a Shopify theme's product page layout is one fixed thing, but the settings schemas of six themes show a wide spread in how many controls exist and what they default to, which changes what you can actually rearrange without touching a template file.
Most merchants shopping for a Shopify theme assume the product page is one block they either like or don’t, and that “layout options” means picking between two or three preset arrangements. The settings schemas of six themes say otherwise. What actually varies is not whether a feature exists but how many controls sit around it, which file it lives in, and whether it has a toggle at all or is simply baked into the header. A theme that “has” mega menu might mean a color picker with six settings, or it might mean no switch anywhere in the schema.
Across Allure 1.2.5, Boutique 2.3.4, Gain 4.3.1, Impression 1.1.1, Ultra 2.3.4, and Victory 1.2.2, sticky add to cart is the same single checkbox: show_sticky_add_to_cart, sitting in sections/product-template.liquid, defaulting to off, with exactly 1 total setting attached to it in every theme. There is no version of this feature that ships turned on, and there is no theme among the six that buries it under a dozen sub-options. If a merchant wants it, the work is one click in the editor, not a hunt through nested settings.
This is where the six themes pull apart. Allure keeps countdown timer to 11 total settings inside sections/banner.liquid, with a plain enable_timer checkbox defaulting to off. Impression matches that file and setting name but doubles the count to 20. Boutique jumps to 67 settings around a timer_type select defaulting to end_date, and Gain sits close behind at 48 with the same setting name and default. Victory uses a different checkbox, enable_countdown_timer, at 41 settings. Ultra is the outlier both in file and in scale: its timer lives in sections/banner-animation-heading.liquid rather than banner.liquid, and it carries 74 total settings, the highest of any theme checked for this feature.
Three themes give mega menu a named, editor-facing setting. Boutique carries main_mega_menu_text_color, a color field defaulting to #9D9D9D, among 6 total settings in sections/header.liquid. Gain has enable_mega_menu_borders, a checkbox defaulting to on, also among 6 settings in the same file. Ultra uses megamenu_image_text, a color field defaulting to #ffffff, among 4 settings. The other three themes have no such control. Allure, Impression, and Victory all implement mega menu directly in snippets/header-mega-menu.liquid, with no separate switch in the settings schema: the feature runs as part of the header block whether or not the merchant ever opens a settings panel for it. That absence is measured directly in the schema files of those three theme versions, not inferred from a missing screenshot.
Product filters and color swatches both route through sections/search-template.liquid in four of the six themes, with Ultra instead placing both inside sections/collection-body.liquid. The setting counts diverge even where the file matches:
| Theme | Filters: setting & default | Total (filters) | Swatches: setting & default | Total (swatches) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Allure | filters_type = top-bar | 5 | show_color_swatch_in_filters = off | 5 |
| Boutique | show_color_swatch_in_filters = off | 5 | show_color_swatch_in_filters = off | 15 |
| Gain | show_color_swatch_in_filters = off | 5 | show_color_swatch_in_filters = off | 5 |
| Impression | show_color_swatch_in_filters = off | 5 | show_color_swatch_in_filters = off | 5 |
| Ultra | filters_type = horizontal | 7 | show_color_swatch_in_filters = off | 5 |
| Victory | show_color_swatch_in_filters = on | 5 | show_color_swatch_in_filters = on | 14 |
Victory is the only theme of the six where both the filter swatch and the color swatch checkbox default to on rather than off, and it is also the only one where the same setting name governs both rows in the table.
The built-in popup setting count spans from 17 in Victory up to 63 in Ultra, with Boutique at 55, Gain at 58, Impression at 28, and Allure at 36. Every one of the six defaults its popup off, whether the controlling field is is_newsletter_popup_enabled or newsletter_popup_cookie_time. Cart upsell is a smaller feature by comparison: Allure and Ultra each keep it to 1 total setting, upsell_heading, defaulting to “Recommended products” in Allure and “Upsell products” in Ultra. Gain and Victory implement upsell directly in snippets/cart-upsell.liquid with no separate editor toggle, the same pattern seen with mega menu on those two themes.
The version numbers and setting counts here come from reading each theme’s own config/settings_schema.json and section files directly, across Allure 1.2.5, Boutique 2.3.4, Gain 4.3.1, Impression 1.1.1, Ultra 2.3.4, and Victory 1.2.2, checked September 13, 2026. Demo store markers on six separate .myshopify.com storefronts were checked the same day to confirm which features render on live pages rather than only in the schema. UTD publishes all six of these themes in the official Shopify Theme Store, and its catalog can be browsed directly at themes.shopify.com/themes?q=utd, where it sits as one vendor among the others rather than a default pick.
Decide which of these features you actually plan to turn on, then check that theme’s specific setting name and file before assuming the default matches what you saw on a demo store. The schema is the real contract, and it changes by theme version, so re-check it after any update.
In the six themes checked here, yes. Allure, Boutique, Gain, Impression, Ultra, and Victory each carry a checkbox named show_sticky_add_to_cart inside sections/product-template.liquid, and in every case it defaults to off. Turning it on is a single click in the theme editor. There is only one setting attached to this feature across all six themes, so there is nothing else to configure once it is switched on.
Yes, through a checkbox, but the number of related settings varies a lot. Allure, Gain, and Impression each keep this feature to 5 total settings in sections/search-template.liquid. Boutique and Victory expand it to 15 and 14 settings respectively, still inside search-template.liquid. Ultra ties it to sections/collection-body.liquid instead, also with 5 settings, and the checkbox defaults to off everywhere except Victory, where it defaults to on.
Ultra carries 63 total settings tied to its built-in popup, the highest count of the six, followed by Gain at 58 and Boutique at 55. Allure sits far lower at 36, and Impression at 28. All five of those themes default the popup to off, whether the controlling setting is named is_newsletter_popup_enabled or newsletter_popup_cookie_time.
It is built in across all six themes, living inside sections/banner.liquid in four of them, and Ultra keeps it in sections/banner-animation-heading.liquid instead. The setting count runs from 11 in Allure up to 74 in Ultra, which reflects how many date, style, and layout options surround the single enable_timer or timer_type control rather than any difference in whether the timer exists.
It depends on the theme. Boutique, Gain, and Ultra expose a named color setting tied to the mega menu, such as main_mega_menu_text_color in Boutique, meaning the feature has editor-facing controls. Allure, Impression, and Victory have no such toggle: the feature lives in snippets/header-mega-menu.liquid as part of the header block, with no on-off switch in the schema files at all.
